What Exactly IS Your Brand? Here’s the Answer!

March 31, 2017 by Chris 40 Comments

your-brand-not-aroundClick HERE to Tweet this Value Bomb!

As an entrepreneur, making it a priority to build my own personal brand has quite frankly turned out to be the best business move I’ve made in my entire career – and I don’t say that lightly, believe me. It’s brought about more opportunities than I could shake a stick at, and helped me grow my businesses bigger than I ever thought possible in the process.

Building your Brand is SMART because it:

  • Creates awareness of what we, as entrepreneurs stand for.
  • Gives us opportunities to become liked and followed consistently.
  • Elevates our credibility, because we embrace being ‘out there’ for the world to find.
  • Allows us to gain trust – which ultimately leads to more business!

Over the last few months I’ve talked a fair amount on the subject of personal branding, as well as the importance of building a brand online on a number of occasions – all of the content has been very well received and I’ve got lots of positive emails and tweets on the subject for the readers of this blog.

What I’ve Experienced Thanks to My Personal Brand

Here are a handful of amazing things that have happened to me, as a result of consciously building my own brand a few years ago:

  • I’ve become the number one go-to source in my industry.
  • I’ve been featured, countless times, in Entrepreneur Magazine.
  • I’ve been featured by Inc.com, Forbes.com, Huffington Post, Success Magazine and other press outlets.
  • I’ve launched and catapulted a speaking career.
  • I’ve landed a traditional book deal (which has since become a bestseller!)
  • I’ve netted a large social media and blog following.
  • I’ve grown an active mailing list of well over 50,000 subscribers.

If all that wasn’t enough, like I said, I’ve also been able to grow my three businesses to a level I never would have imagined, with over 400 full-time employees working for me, and clients from all around the world.

10 Quick Tips to Branding Building Brilliance

  • #1) Have a Unique Blog Design – Don’t copy anyone. Create something new looking, and stand out. People want to do business with innovators.
  • #2) Get a Proper Logo Designed – Cheap (home-made) logos always look bad. Invest in a good one, use a service like 99designs.com.
  • #3) Think About Creating a Tagline – You don’t ‘need’ it, but it might help get your message across quickly, especially in a crowded niche.
  • #4) Create an ‘About Me’ Page – Tell people about who you are, and most importantly how you will help them. Think about things properly and then do it. Check mine out here, too.
  • #5) Add Links to your Social Media Channels – Facebook, Twitter, Google+ – take the conversation off your blog.
  • #6) Publish a Podcast – The ability to literally be inserted into someones earbuds is untouched online today. It’s a medium that everyone loves.
  • #7) Publish Online Video via YouTube – YouTube is just like another search engine. Provide it some good content and people will find you.
  • #8) Create Unique, Compelling Content – Listen to your audience, they will help you solve problems and answer questions for them.
  • #9) Have a Unique Free (Opt-In) Offer – Work hard on building something you could charge $100 for, then give it away to build your email list!
  • #10) Be Yourself – Always. People can read right through the ‘Online BS’. So, be you. People want to do business with other people.

Build your brand, people. Build your brand.

The Importance of Bringing Your Community Together in Person

September 1, 2015 by Chris Leave a Comment

Important Note: The ‘Chit-Chat’ video interview clip featured in this post is one of our monthly deliverables at Youpreneur.com. These training videos, along with other exclusive content, as well as our private mastermind forums make up the Youpreneur Community. It’ll all help you build your business better! For more info click here!

One of the best things I’ve done, and you can do, as an entrepreneur that has online businesses (as well as more traditional, brick n mortar ones, too!) is focus on bringing your community together, regularly… in person!

Yes, I mean in ‘real life’. In the same physical location, together.

One of my favorite ways to do this is when I team up with my good friend, Pat Flynn from Smart Passive Income to hold one of our 1-Day Business Breakthrough events.

In this video, which was filmed before our latest live event in San Diego, myself and Pat talk about the importance of taking our communities offline, bringing everything into the real world through live events, and why live events are so successful.

Entrepreneurs can live very lonely lives when it comes to their work, so these meet-ups and events can be a chance to connect.

You get the chance to share experiences (dinner, a drink) or conversations with like-minded people. You can walk away from a live event with something as simple as good advice, to something like an amazing partnership or friendship that can last years (ex. Pat and I, and our families being together – literally seeing our kids grow up together. So cool!

Another reason why live events and the act of bringing your community together are so successful is that when you are the person facilitating the meeting, it elevates you and your brand by creating a ‘culture’ which can help you create even more fandom and that ultimately leads to more spreading of your ideas, wisdom and ultimately, your brand and business.

It’s this approach to community and business building, as well as the focus on surrounding yourself with the right, like-minded people that we’re all about inside of the Youpreneur Community. Hop over and check it all out – it might turn out to be just what you need to take your business to the next level… and beyond!

3 Cities, 400+ Guests & Plenty of Memories – The ‘Virtual Freedom’ USA Book Tour

July 29, 2014 by Chris 20 Comments

cd signingWhen I finished writing my book, Virtual Freedom, I was happy with the outcome. I’d worked hard on the manuscript, and even though I learned a fair few lessons along the way, overall, I knew that I had produced the absolute best book that I had inside of me on the subject of working with virtual staff.

I also knew that following its release, many people would buy it. Read it. Review it and (hopefully) tell others about it. All this has happened and I’ve been floating on cloud nine since its launch in April, as I continue to ride the wave that its initial launch has created.

However, nothing could prepare me for what I would experience as I came face-to-face with the readers of the book, as I went on my US Book Tour. I was excited to speak at events and do signings at three different US cities this past month.

Thought of the (Fri)Day – It’s NOT Just About Me, or YOU!

May 23, 2014 by Chris 21 Comments

its-friday

It’s Friday.

Generally, I don’t work Friday’s. However, today is a little different…

I’ve just clearing my inbox to ZERO. Prior to that I shot a couple of quick videos, had a 15-minute meeting with my VA team via Skype to discuss a new project and was interviewed for a podcast.

The time, as I hit publish on this post (which took me around 20-minutes to write) is 11am. I’m done for the day.

I’m now off to spend the afternoon with my youngest and then it’s date night for me and my wife… dinner and a movie.

Why am I telling you all this?

Join Me and Pat Flynn for Our 1-Day “Business Breakthrough” Event in July!

April 21, 2013 by Chris

chris & patAs some of you may know I’ll be in the States for the entire month of July, firstly for Chris Guillebeau’s ‘World Domination Summit’, and then later on in the month for my speaking slot at the National Speakers Association’s Annual Convention in Philadelphia.

This is actually going to be the longest period I’ve spent in the US for the last 6-years, so I wanted to make the most out of it. Whilst thinking of things to do with my time while I’m there, the first thing that popped into my head was my buddy, Pat Flynn.

Myself and Pat met initially online, in early 2010. We then got to hang out in person for the first time in November of that year at BlogWorld Expo – and an instant friendship was formed.

Since then we’ve become closer, both as friends, but also as one another’s sounding board for anything related to business, marketing, parenting, and pretty much anything else! There isn’t a week that goes by where we don’t hop onto Skype together at least a couple of times!

We’ve often said how much fun it would be to do ‘something’ together, but have waited for the right something to come along.

Announcement: I’m Taking a 4HWW ‘Mini Retirement’, Until the End of 2013

April 1, 2013 by Chris 57 Comments

mini-retirement-2013In his best selling book “The 4-Hour Workweek”, author and lifestyle designer, Tim Ferriss talked about Mini-Retirements.

The premise behind the idea is to not wait until you reach traditional retirement age to start taking it easy. Instead you work hard for a couple of months and then take the next one off. Completely.

It would be an understatement if I said I had worked hard these last couple of months. I’ve been pushing it HARD for the last couple of years… I believe I’m due a little time off.

So, I’ve decided to take the rest of 2013 off to completely reboot my life.

New Media Expo 2013 Review and My Biggest Takeaway’s from the Event

January 14, 2013 by Chris 38 Comments

chris-nmx-profileI’m currently sitting in a hotel room in San Francisco, where I have been decompressing over the last few days with my wife, following a whirlwind week in Las Vegas for New Media Expo, where I spoke on the subject of teaming up with virtual assistants to outsource the bulk of entrepreneurial content marketing tasks – it was a blast!

This was my third time to attend the conference (formerly known as BlogWorld) and my second time to speak.

I thought it would be a good idea to put together this quick post to point out a few highlights, report on my session, and to give a few mentions to those that I got to hang out with, as well as learn from myself.

#NewBusiness Chit-Chat: Your Proudest 2012 Moment, and your 2013 Goal!

December 18, 2012 by Chris 30 Comments

It’s been a while since I did an ‘Ask the Readers’ post, so I thought I’d roll one out today – which we can all potentially use as a source of inspiration for each other, along with a healthy bit of motivation, going into next year, too!

2012 has been a very memorable year for me, both personally and from a business perspective, too. But, with that being said, it hasn’t been without it’s challenges, too.

Today I’m going to share my proudest moment of 2012, and let you all in on my number one goal for next year! And then I want all of you to do exactly the same, in the comment section below – we can then come back to all the comments sometime next year and see if we’ve achieved all the goals, or not.

Sound like fun? Good – let’s do it!

#NewBusiness Chit-Chat: Legacy. How Do You Want To Be Remembered?

October 11, 2012 by Chris 29 Comments

I’ve been thinking a lot recently about what I want my legacy to be. What do I want people to say about me when I’m gone?

What kind of influence will I have on my kids, in regards to how they create opportunities and shape their own lives?

A little morbid, perhaps – but, lets face it… We’re all only here for a certain period of time, right?! Are we happy to just waffle through life, fundamentally wasting it? Or do we want to create something, do something that will make a difference – in any way. Doesn’t matter if it’s business related, or not.

In an effort to get to know you, my readers, viewers, visitors, etc., better than I already do (some of you more than others, obviously), I’d love to be able to hear from you on this topic. Ask yourself the following questions:

The ‘New Business’ Manifesto

October 4, 2012 by Chris 50 Comments

New Business Manifesto

Throughout the course of a normal week, I’ll receive hundreds of questions from small business owners and startup entrepreneurs on the subject of starting and growing companies in today’s incredibly fast moving business world.

A lot of the time they are via our Facebook Community, and I’ll reply there directly. Sometimes its on Twitter, and some times via email. Bottom line: I freakin’ love hearing from you – regardless of how you reach out. So, please don’t stop!

One thing that I really love is the fact that the large majority of these messages come in from people that have already taken and finished my free training course, the ‘New Business’ Bootcamp, giving them a great kickstart in the process!

But, growing a business in today’s market is not just about learning how to blog, podcast, how to utilize online video, or work with virtual assistants (to name a few of the subjects tackled in the bootcamp). It’s also just as important to have the right mindset, than it is to have the skills!

We need to encapsulate EVERYTHING that we should ALL be about, in regards to changing the way we startup, market and build our businesses in today’s economy, so I bring to you, the ‘New Business’ Manifesto!
